Navjyoti India Foundation launched Shikshak Mitra

Navjyoti India Foundation held its second teacher training program ‘Shikshak Diwas’ (Teacher’s Day) on September 10, 2014 at Navjyoti Community College, Karala. More than 103 teachers and Principals participated from schools and teacher training Colleges mainly from North West area. Various competitions were organized, such as poem writing, paper presentation, article writing, activities and solutions factory etc. Enthusiastic participation was seen by teachers. M.C.D Primary school, Karala bagged the Best school trophy, while DIET Pitampura secured the runners’ up trophy.

A panel discussion was also organized on the occasion, where Dr Kiran Bedi, General Secretary, Navjyoti India Foundation, Dr Sunita Gandhi, CEO, Global Classroom Pvt Ltd, Dr Sangeeta Chauhan, Associate Professor and Faculty Head, Department of Education, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprashta University and Mrs Savitri Singh, Consultant, NIOS were the esteemed panelists. Very engaging and insightful panel discussion and question and answer session dwelled upon pertinent issues related to role of the teacher in promoting Gender Sensitivity, Values, Character Building. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bedi emphasized on the importance of sports and volunteering by students in building character and shaping personality. She gave a vision for coming together to make Bawana Resettlement Colony literate through joint efforts. Dr Sunita Gandhi added and shared the role of appreciation and encouragement by teachers. Dr Sangeeta Chauhan spoke on role of parents and teachers and being role models in setting examples in day today to promote values and Gender Equality. To this, Mrs Savita Singh shared her insight on making children inquisitive right from an early age and giving them the right opportunity for promoting creativity.

Navjyoti also launched a unique platform called ‘Shikshak Mitra‘ (Friends of teachers) in order to provide teachers and schools to come together and share challenges and good practices in the area of promoting value based education and character building. It would be initiated as a two days teacher enabling workshop so that teachers get equipped with the right kind of skills to lead the change and achieve the noble mission of real man making and not just focus on course completion.
