Introduction

The 255-hour Stitching & Tailoring course under Navjyoti India Foundation’s Skill Development Program provides participants with practical skills in garment creation and crafting. Beginning with the basics of stitching and tailoring, the course covers hand stitches, sewing machine operations, tools, and maintenance. Advanced modules focus on drafting, cutting, and sewing techniques, including pattern making, fabric estimation, and colour concepts.

Participants gain expertise in constructing various garments, such as frocks, salwars, Kurtis, blouses, and ghagras, while learning techniques like using Velcro, elastic, pressing, and folding. The program also includes soft toy making, where learners create pillows, bolsters, and stuffed toys like teddy bears, dogs, and cats. This course equips individuals with versatile skills for careers in tailoring and crafting.

Course Modules

Module 1 Basics of Stitching and Tailoring

Basic hand stitches; Sewing machine and its parts; Introduction of common tools; How to operate a sewing machine, Care and maintenance

Pattern making and drafting; Estimation and selection of cloth; Colour concepts

Knowledge about Velcro and elastic usage; Pressing and folding techniques

Apron; Petticoat; Toddler frocks; Simple frock; Umbrella frock; Ladies suit; Belted salwar; Afghani salwar; Ladies kurti; Plain blouse; Palazzo; Ladies Ghagra

Pillow and bolster set for babies; Teddy bear; Stuffed Dog toy; Stuffed Cat toy

Practical Experience Support

Students are provided with 28 hours of internship and project work to provide practical experience and improve their confidence.

Certification Details

We offer two types of certifications under this course: Completion Certificate
 Certification and Participation Certification.

Completion Certificate


To receive a Completion Certificate, students must pass a final exam. On passing, a hard copy certificate will be issued and will include the student's name, guardian's name, enrolment number, course completed, and course duration.

Students who either do not take the final exam or do not pass but maintain at least 40% attendance will be awarded a Participation Certification.

Participation Certification


A hard copy certificate will be issued and will include the student's name, guardian's name, enrolment number, course participated in, and course duration.
